Heian Sandan (Heian No.3)
Mastery of the forearm block (Yoko-uke and
Nidan-uki) against body attack is the principle
aim. With the elbow fully bent, learn to
position it about a hand-width from the
body with reliability.
Releasing from the opponent who has grabbed
your wrist, blocking with the elbow and
counterattacking with a Chudan-zuki or elbow
strike: from this kata, one can gain an
understanding of the great value of this
fundamental technique.
The number of movements is twenty-one,
and the time required is about thirty seconds.
This kata is practiced in the sixth kyu
level.
