Naifanchi Shodan (Sideways fighting)
This kata belongs to Shuri-te, from master
Itosu School. Fighting against opponents
at the sides is the specification of Naifanchi
kata.
The stance is Naifanchi-dachi, and it is
important that it be strong and stable.
For such special blocking with the sole
of foot, the hips must be well set. Open
arm block (Oh ura uke), forearm middle block,
and hook punch are used in this kata.
The number of movements is twenty-six,
and the time required is about forty seconds.
This kata is practiced in the third kyu
level.
